Shoprite outlets across Nigeria has been shut down due to ongoing protest by inherited staff of the company.
The employees of the company alleged that the management of the company did not pay them off before handing them over to the new company who purchased shoprite.
The protesters were seen with various placards with inscriptions such as: “Pay us our entitlement, ” Is Injustice To handover the company with paying us off…” among others.
Recall that Shoprite last year announced the sale of its assets to a Nigerian company that is yet to make its identity known to the public.
As at the time of filing this report from Abuja,on Tuesday being 2nd March 2021, OURWORLDGIST’ gathers that the protest is simultaneously going on across the country in the cities where shoprite outlets are located.
Meanwhile, all effort made to speak with the new management of the company proved abortive as the heavy security presence at the entrance of the shoprite located along Airport – Lugbe road denied our reporter access to interview the new management.
