Attack On Muri: If Bello Is Allowed, He Will Truncate Democray – Says KEGCF

The Kogi East Governorship Candidates Forum (KEGCF) have condemned in totality the attack on His Excellency ;    Alhaji Muritala Yakubu Ajaka , the Governorship candidate of Social Democratic Party, (SDP) in Kogi state, by Governor Yahaya Bello, Whilst Muri was on his way from Abuja to Lokoja to seek the blessings of his royal Fathers from across the three senatorial districts of the Kogi State.

In a statement issued by Dr Abdullahi Yunusa Bayawo, PRP Governorship Candidate to the forum, he said the attack was barbaric, treacherous and condemnable in its totality stressing that it was capable of causing anarchy and ethnic war in the state.

He added, if Governor Yahaya Bello is allowed to continue to display power drunk governance style, he will truncate democracy in the state.

Part of the statement obtained online readss:
… “This attack which took place in a Village close to Lokoja on, 3rd of June,2023 at about 11: 30am was carried out on the SDP governorship candidate by security details/ thugs of his Excellency, Yahaya Bello”.

” This act by a sitting governor using his position is an attack against democracy, human rights, right to movements and freedom of association”.

” This can not happen in a society where the rule of law prevails”

The statement added, “We call on the president and commander in Chief of the Armed forces of the federal Republic of Nigeria to urgently direct the Inspector General of Police (IG ) and Director General of DSS to investigate this barbaric show of powers by Yahaya Bello”.

” The Federal government need to caution this power drunk governor and sanctions him to stop harassing other contestants apart from his annointed candidate”.

” The Forum condemned this act of violence, which if not immediately checked, is capable of derailing the 2023 Kogi State governorship election”

” Yahaya Bello if allowed to continue with this act, will truncate our democratic process as well as jeopardizing our unity as a state and corporate existence as a nation”.

” The candidate of All Progressive Congress ( APC ) was in the east on a blessing mission some weeks ago but was never attacked by anyone”.

The statement also enjoined all Kogi East Sons and daughters to remain calm and respect the rule of law stating that President Ahmed Bola Asiwaju Tinubu, would definitely not allow this to be swept under the carpet.

Recall, the Alhaji Muritala Yakubu Ajaka, the candidate of SDP was attacked on Saturday being 3rd June 2023 with straight bullets fired at bullet proof vehicle.
