As the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) laid siege to former Governor Yahaya Bello’s residence on Wuse Bengazi Street, Abuja, on Tuesday, April 17, 2024, a man described as the “de facto Governor” of Kogi State, Usman Ahmed Ododo, reportedly used thugs to smuggle him away amidst tear gas and sporadic gunshots.
According to intelligence gathered, the EFCC had earlier laid siege to the former Governor’s house for his official arrest over allegations of embezzling billions of Naira while serving as Governor of the state between 2015 and 2024.
Yahaya Bello, who couldn’t emerge during the siege, allegedly called on the de facto Governor, Usman Ahmed Ododo, to mobilize security forces that overpowered EFCC’s security squads, a command that was faithfully obeyed and executed.
It’s worth noting that this is the third time the former Governor Yahaya Bello has resisted arrest using the state’s security apparatus.
Currently standing trial for numerous corruption charges, former Governor Yahaya Bello is said to be operating from the Government House in Lokoja, where he continues to oversee the affairs of the state.
