Amodu Arome, a social media commentator, has compared Usman Austin Okai to the late political icon, Dr. Stephen Makoji Achema, who was prominent among the Igala-speaking community.

In a Facebook post on his official account, Arome praised Okai’s leadership style, asserting that he is reminiscent of Dr. Achema in his early days.

Arome expressed his hope that Okai would have a long life, benefiting society, and mentioned that Dr. Achema would be proud of Okai’s achievements, wherever he is in paradise.

In a subsequent post, Arome elaborated that although Okai is young, he has conducted himself with integrity, earning him a place among the respected elders of the land.

He emphasized that Okai has brought pride to Kogi and Nigeria, proving himself trustworthy like Achema.

When interviewed by Ourworldgist, Arome briefly described Usman Austin Okai as a professional accountant and an advocate of good governance who enjoys citizen journalism.

Arome revealed that between 2015 and 2024, Okai was repeatedly arrested and jailed by the government of Yahaya Bello for his boldness in speaking truth to power.

He added that Okai, a philanthropist who supports society and individuals with his modest income, was the undeniable Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the federal house of representatives for Dekina/Bassa in 2023, but his election was thwarted by a candidate favoured by Yahaya Bello.

Arome concluded by noting that Okai, who is outspoken, courageous, and confident, is cherished by the Igala-speaking community and others.

In a side by side commentary, Stephen Makoji Achema, a notable Nigerian politician and revered patriot of Igala descent, was born on June 15, 1947.

His life began in the heart of the Igala community, within the respected family of Andrew Achema Oyibo.

This lineage was deeply rooted in the Ayija clan of the Aleji dynasty, known for their significant role as kingmakers in the Igalamela region.

Stephen’s political journey was marked by his deep commitment to his people and his nation, reflective of his robust heritage and upbringing within a dynasty celebrated for leadership and governance.

His efforts in politics were not just a career but a continuation of the legacy of his forefathers, who played pivotal roles in shaping leaders within the Igala community.

Dr Stephen Makoji Achema who was a Senior Special Advicer to Olusegun Aremu Obansojo had his life short-lived, as he passed away on November 6, 1999, at the age of 52.

Despite his untimely demise, Stephen Makoji Achema left behind a legacy filled with dedication and patriotism, remembered by many for his significant contributions to the political landscape of Nigeria and his unwavering commitment to his heritage.

His life story is a testament to the profound impact one individual can have on their community and country, echoing through the annals of Nigerian politics and the history of the Igala people.

To recap, Usman Austin Okai, described by many as ” an undying Man”, ” a mouth piece of the masses”, ” a beckon of hope”, “an Igala unassuming leader of great repute”, and ” an unrepentant believer of democracy” is no doubt an unfolding personality of no other person but Dr. Stephen Makoji Achema of the blessed memories.
