Former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Adosa Bello, currently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes commission (EFCC) over allegations of embezzling Kogi State funds amounting to 84 billion Naira and other offences, has expressed regret over his actions against the commission.
While speaking to some EFCC staff from detention, Bello admitted that one of his gravest mistakes during his tenure was his decision to oppose the commission.
He stated, “There was no need for what I did, and it is unfortunate that it has already come to pass.”
When asked whether he had sponsored other state governments to collaborate in declaring the commission illegal, the former governor, once popularly referred to as the White Lion, broke down in uncontrollable tears and did not respond to the question.
Yahaya Bello is currently being investigated for allegedly siphoning funds belonging to Kogi State during his time in office.
He faces 16 charges brought against him by the EFCC.
He has been denied bail and will remain in custody until December 10, 2024, when the case is scheduled to be mentioned in court again.
