The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka, has expelled a student, Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious, for gross misconduct.
In a statement released on Friday, the Acting Registrar, Victor Modebelu, confirmed the expulsion, stating that it was based on the recommendations of the Student Disciplinary Committee.
According to Modebelu, the committee submitted its findings to the Acting Vice-Chancellor after investigating Chimamaka’s assault on a lecturer from the department.
The student was found guilty of violating the university’s Student Disciplinary Regulations.
The university reiterated its commitment to upholding discipline and maintaining academic integrity, emphasizing that misconduct of any kind would not be tolerated.
OurWorldGist gathered that earlier this week, a viral video showed Miss Chimamaka Precious Mbakwe, a 400-level student in the Department of Theatre Arts, assaulting a lecturer who happened to be passing by while she was recording a TikTok video.
The incident sparked widespread reactions, with a large section of the social media community calling for her expulsion due to her misconduct.
Following the public outcry, the university acted on February 13, 2025, after a thorough investigation by the Student Disciplinary Committee.
Many have praised the university’s decision, stating that it will serve as a deterrent to other Gen Z students who might consider engaging in similar acts in the future
