Nigerian political figure and veteran journalist, Dele Momodu, has stated that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja a city known for its educated and responsible citizens should not have former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, as its Minister.
Momodu made this assertion during an appearance on News Central on Friday, July 10, 2025, while responding to questions from journalists.
He said that one of the greatest disservices President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has done to Nigerians was appointing Nyesom Wike as the Minister of the FCT. He described Wike as “wayward” and “foul-mouthed,” accusing him of regularly insulting his political allies and elders old enough to be his grandfathers.
“Abuja, which is the pride of Nigeria and Africa as a whole, should not be left in the hands of such a disgruntled fellow who believes insulting political opponents is a way to gain public attention and accolades,” he said.
While Momodu acknowledged that Wike has made efforts to improve infrastructure in the capital, he suggested that Wike would have been more suitable for the role of Minister of Works and Housing, where he would be “constantly on the roads constructing highways and contending with animals.”
He further described Wike as an “agbero” (a local slang for a thug or street tout), stating that Abuja deserves an educated leader who can engage in issue-based discussions not someone who speaks with a “frog-like voice” and behaves like a “drunkard.”
This reaction follows Wike’s earlier attack on Dele Momodu during an interview on Channels Television earlier in the week, where Wike responded harshly to questions regarding his critics.
Dele Momodu, a well-known journalist and politician, is a key figure in the newly formed coalition party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which is gearing up to challenge President Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
