Suspected kidnappers have once again struck at the University of Abuja Staff Quarters located around Giri along the Zuba–Gwagwalada axis of Abuja, abducting a staff member’s son identified as Ibrahim Ishaq Sani.

The incident, which has left residents of the quarters in a state of perpetual fear, occurred on the night of 31st July 2025.

Narrating the ordeal, the elder brother of the abductee, Mallam Abdulrasheed Sani, explained that the kidnappers arrived around 11:25 p.m., suddenly invaded their room, and abducted both him and his brother.

He added that while he was later released, the kidnappers dragged his brother away in an attempt to lure their next-door neighbor, Professor Sunny Ejaro of the Geography Department, out of his apartment.

According to him, his brother, Ibrahim Ishaq Sani, was forced to call out Professor Sunny Ejaro to come outside as instructed by the kidnappers.

However, sensing suspicious activity around the house, Professor Ejaro refused to open the door.

The kidnappers then forcefully broke open the front door of Professor Ejaro’s apartment, unaware that he and his wife had quietly escaped through the back door.

Upon discovering their escape, the kidnappers dragged Ibrahim away with them into the bush.

OurWorldGist has gathered that the kidnappers are demanding a ransom of ₦50 million before Ibrahim Ishaq Sani can regain his freedom.

The mother of the abductee, a widow, has appealed to the Federal Government, particularly the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, to intervene and help secure her son’s release.

Recall that a similar incident occurred in the same quarters in 2021, when several professors and staff were abducted, subjected to inhumane treatment, and forced to pay exorbitant ransoms. It took the intervention of the security apparatus under then-President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure their safe release.

As of the time of filing this report, residents of the quarters were seen gathered in clusters, discussing the incident in fear.
