In what is described as fairness, in a dramatic turn of event today being 7th Match 2024, the Supreme Court of Nigeria has intervened by issuing a stay of execution on the orders handed down by the Court of Appeal on March 1st, 2024.
These orders had nullified the inspections conducted by Alhaji Muritala Yakubu Ajaka and the Social Democratic Party (SDP), as well as set aside orders G, K, and N from the Tribunal’s rulings on November 25th, 2023.
The interim stay was granted following a compelling application made by the legal team representing the Petitioners.
Led by Chief J.S. Okutepa SAN, alongside Shaibu Enejoh Aruwa SAN and other distinguished lawyers, the team argued fervently for the necessity of the stay to prevent irreparable harm that the Court of Appeal’s orders would inflict upon the Petitioners.
Acknowledging the urgency and gravity of the situation, the Supreme Court acceded to the plea and ordered a stay in line with the reliefs sought in the motion filed on March 5th, 2024.
The matter has been adjourned for a hearing on March 11th, 2024.
This development marks a significant moment in the ongoing legal proceedings, with implications that resonate throughout the Nigerian judicial landscape.
