In a recent development in the lead-up to the elections in Kogi State, the campaign team of Mr  Yahaya Bello , the incumbent Governor, has been accused of resorting to forgery and spreading false information.

This accusation comes amid a tense electoral battle, as Bello seeks third re-election through his proxy candidate, Usman Ahmed Ododo of All Progressieve Congress (APC).

The campaign team of the leading candidate in the election, Alhaji Muritala Yakubu Ajaka, of Social Democratic Party (SDP) claims that Governor Bello’s camp has forged and falsely attributed a statement to their Campaign’s Head of New Media, Mr. I D Ijele.

According to the alleged statement, Ajaka has withdrawn from the race and collapsed his structure to support the candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Elder Leke Abejide.

The campaign team of Alhaji Muritala Yakubu Ajaka has denounced these claims as baseless and a blatant falsehood.

They assert that Ajaka remains firmly in the race, backed by overwhelming support from the people.

Mr Adejoh-Audu, Spokesman, Director Communications, Muri/Sam Campaign Council noted with dismay in a press release that: “this is not the first time such allegations have been raised against Governor Bello’s camp.

Earlier, they were accused of falsely claiming that all the SDP Chairmen in the state had defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In that instance, Governor Bello even provided clothing to some individuals, attempting to portray them as party leaders before the truth was uncovered”.

” Furthermore, on August 30, they allegedly planted fake news on an obscure online blog, claiming that Ajaka had met with Governor Bello and another candidate, Ododo, and had stepped down”

These repeated instances of alleged falsehood have raised concerns among the public and political observers

In response to these allegations, the campaign team of Alhaji Muritala Yakubu Ajaka calls for Governor Bello and his associates to show respect for the office they hold and refrain from engaging in such tactics.

The campaign team remains confident in the support they have received and looks forward to the election results.

“For the records, Ajaka remains solid in the race, and by the overwhelming support of the people, he enjoys that he will emerge Governor-Elect when the votes of the election are counted and results declared.”
