In a recent development, a Federal Capital High Court has issued a restraining order against key law enforcement figures, including Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Mr Bertrand Onuoho , the Inspector General of Police, and the Director-General of the Department of State Security (DSS).

The order prohibits the arrest, harassment, or intimidation of Mr Faruk Adejoh-Audu, the Spokesman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

The court’s decision, pending the determination of a motion on notice, stems from an action filed by Mr Adejoh-Audu, who alleges threats to his life by the aforementioned authorities.

The SDP Spokesman, a veteran journalist, activist, and politician, sought legal protection following a public altercation with Commissioner Unuoha over election matters.

The conflict escalated when Adejoh-Audu accused the police chief of colluding with thugs to undermine his party’s interests.

In response, Commissioner Unuoha issued a 24-hour ultimatum for Adejoh-Audu to substantiate his claims or face unspecified consequences.

This led to a legal exchange, with Adejoh-Audu justifying his allegations and accusing the police chief of resorting to self-help.

In an ex parte application before the FCT High Court Abuja on Monday being 12th December 2023, represented by lawyer O. U. Salifu Esq, the SDP Spokesman successfully secured a restraining order.

The court, presided over by Hon Justice N Hamza, barred the Inspector General of Police, the Director-General of the DSS, the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, and the State Director of DSS from arresting or interfering with Adejoh-Audu’s liberty.

The matter is scheduled for a hearing on December 18, 2023, where the Motion On Notice will be addressed.

This legal development adds another layer to the ongoing tension between the SDP Spokesman and law enforcement in Kogi State.
