Senator Attai Aidoko & Ejeh of Olamaboro’s Interest Over Illegal Coal Mining Spark Up Tensions

The serene landscape of Igah Chiefdom is facing turbulent times as disputes over coal mining escalate, threatening the long-standing peace and unity of the community.

The discovery of coal in various parts of Igah, including Ugbamaka Igah and the boundary between Orinono Ogugu and Ojuwo Igah, has ignited a fierce competition among stakeholders for control and access to mining sites.

At the heart of the conflict is the alleged circumvention of traditional structures and agreements by influential figures such as Senator Attai Aidoko Alih and Ejeh Olamaboro HRH Ujah Simon.

Despite existing zoning and sharing formulas within the Igah Chiefdom, these individuals have unilaterally constituted boards and nominated candidates for key positions without the consent of the Igah Progressive Association or the Traditional Council.

The nomination and selection process for the position of Adoko Ayan in Ugbamaka Igah, a second-class chief, has sparked controversy, with accusations of favoritism and disregard for established rotational principles.

Ejeh Olamaboro’s unilateral appointment of Bea Aidoko Alih as Adoko Ayan has further fueled tensions, as it is perceived to serve the personal interests of the involved parties rather than the collective welfare of the community.

Moreover, the exploitation of coal resources in Orinono Ogugu by Ejeh Olamaboro, purportedly due to his affiliation with the area, has exacerbated feelings of injustice and marginalization among other clans within the Igah Chiefdom.

The potential ramifications of these actions are dire, with the risk of igniting a full-blown crisis within Igah Chiefdom.

Recent conflicts in neighboring communities serve as cautionary tales, underscoring the need for dialogue and adherence to established traditions to prevent further escalation.

Calls for adherence to the principles of unity, peace, and progress as outlined by Igah’s cultural heritage echo throughout the community.

The defiance of established norms by influential figures threatens not only the stability of Igah but also the integrity of its ancestral legacy.

As tensions mount and allegiances are tested, the future of Igah Chiefdom hangs in the balance, with the hopes of its people resting on the preservation of their cherished traditions and the resolution of contentious disputes.
