On Thurday during the week, the whole world was thrown into explosive rage when the video of #GeorgeFloyd, being brutally abused and maltreated by five Minnesota police officers surfaced on social media.
The police officer was seen kneeling on Floyd’s neck, who was already cuffed, and in the video #GeorgeFloyd was heard screaming “I can’t breathe”!, but all those fell on deaf ears as the police officer kept kneeling on his neck with his hands in his pocket.
As a result of such cruelty suffered in the hands of these officers, #GeorgeFloyd later passed out and died.
Since then, there has been a global outcry and series of protest against police brutality and murder of #GeorgeFloyd, some of which have become violent.
Whilst the five officers have been relieved of their jobs, President Donald Trump have waded in on the situation and has instructed the FBI and DoJ to open a thorough investigation on the event and he has promised justice for #GeogeFloyd.
Trumps tweet reads; “At my request, the FBI and the Department of Justice are already well into an investigation as to the very sad and tragic death in Minnesota of George Floyd….”
“….I have asked for this investigation to be expedited and greatly appreciate all of the work done by local law enforcement. My heart goes out to George’s family and friends. Justice will be served!”
Remember when Joe Biden said “if you are not voting for me, then you ain’t black”, a statement that sparked furious remarks from the black community in the US, this might be yet another opportunity for Trump to further act in a way that would further endear him to the hearts of millions more of black Americans.
