Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho  has significantly impacted Bassa and Dekina Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Kogi East since his election to the Nigerian Senate in 2019.

His tenure has ushered in a wave of progress and development, focusing on the needs and aspirations of the people he represents.

This report highlights his achievements without undermining the contributions of previous representatives in Kogi East.

Instead, it aims to spotlight the exceptional strides Senator Echocho has made in Bassa and Dekina.

Senator Echocho represents Kogi East in the National Assembly, one of Nigeria’s 109 senatorial districts.

Kogi East comprises nine LGAs: Ankpa, Bassa, Dekina, Ibaji, Idah, Igalamela-Odolu, Ofu, Omala, and Olamaboro but in this report, however, the focus is on Bassa and Dekina, two LGAs with rich histories but limited opportunities for quality representation at the national level.

Created in 1976 during General Murtala Ramat Mohammed’s administration, Bassa and Dekina have long awaited impactful leadership to address their unique challenges.

Senator Echocho’s commitment to transforming these LGAs has changed the course of governance and brought tangible benefits to the people.

One of Senator Echocho’s core priorities has been empowering the youth and women of Bassa and Dekina. Recognizing that youth and women are vital to economic growth and social cohesion, he has implemented empowerment programs that provide financial assistance and skill-development opportunities. Through grants and training, he has enabled many young people and women in these areas to start businesses, engage in productive activities, and become financially independent.

Senator Echocho has also championed educational support through scholarships. Many deserving students from Bassa and Dekina have benefited from his scholarship initiatives, allowing them to pursue higher education without the burden of financial constraints. This investment in education helps to uplift families and communities by enabling youths to reach their academic potential and contribute meaningfully to society.

Agriculture being a predominant occupation in these areas, Senator Echocho has supported farmers by providing agricultural inputs. He has made fertilizers, seeds, and farming tools accessible to farmers, irrespective of political affiliation or religious beliefs, fostering inclusivity and unity in his approach. His agricultural initiatives not only improve productivity but also enhance food security and provide a stable livelihood for countless families across Bassa and Dekina.

Another notable achievement is Senator Echocho’s investment in water infrastructure. He has facilitated the installation of boreholes across various wards and villages in Bassa and Dekina. Access to clean water is a fundamental need, and his efforts to provide boreholes have improved public health and reduced waterborne diseases. Villagers no longer have to trek long distances to fetch water, making daily life easier and more convenient.

In addition to his developmental initiatives, Senator Echocho has leveraged his influence to secure employment opportunities for some residents of Bassa and Dekina. Through his efforts, qualified applicants from these areas have gained appointments in various government and private sector positions. By creating pathways to gainful employment, he has reduced unemployment and provided a means for the youth to realize their potential.

Senator Echocho has also addressed infrastructure challenges by advocating for road rehabilitation. One of the critical projects he has championed is the rehabilitation of the Chitaku-Dekina federal road. This road serves as a vital link for residents, facilitating the movement of people, goods, and services. Its rehabilitation will no doubt enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, and spur economic activities, benefiting local businesses and communities alike.

These accomplishments underscore Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho’s commitment to elevating the quality of life in Bassa and Dekina. His representation in the Senate has not only transformed the two LGAs but also set a new standard for leadership in Kogi East. Through targeted interventions in youth empowerment, education, agriculture, water access, employment, and infrastructure, he has laid a solid foundation for sustainable development and progress.
